Desmond King holds the Andrew W Mellon Statutory Professorship of American Government at the University of Oxford and is a Fellow of the British Academy, the American Philosophical Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His research on inequality in the US and the executive state includes Fed Power: How Finance Works (with Larry Jacobs, 2021), The Beleaguered Republic: The Deep State versus the Unitary Executive (2022, with Skowronek and Dearborn), and European States in Crisis (2017 with Patrick Le Gales). He is preparing work on political violence in the U.S. and a comparative study of political elites’ hostility to migrants.
